Description:
Todd Hamlin photographing Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad U30C diesel locomotive #3053 at the road’s shops in Eagle Mills, Michigan, on July 22, 1996. Both Todd and his father (who is also the photographer) had permits from the railroad allowing them to be on the property. The LS&I, which opened in 1896, hauls primarily iron ore in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. As of 2009, it remains active as an indpendent operation. Many small railroads have traditionally been friendly towards the public, which helped foster a greater general interest in railroading, although growing concerns over security have recently limited such opportunities. |

He also has been photographing airliners since the late 1960s, and contributes to both the trade and hobby press in this field, as well.
