Description:
A water tank at Casco Junction, Wisconsin, on the Kewaunee, Green Bay & Western in 1940.The tank occupies the left three-fourths of the frame, with what appears to be an overcast sky on the right with a little shadow on the tank. Traces of moss appear on the staves. Notably, the picture appeared on cover of the first issue of "Trains" magazine in November 1940. Without the spout, this tank could have appeared atop a New York apartment building. With the spout, it is unmistakable as an icon of rural American railroading. |
