Description:
Combined Soo Line passenger trains the Winnipeger and Soo-Dominion arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota from the west. The Winnipeger ran between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Winnipeg, Manitoba. Service began in 1904 and lasted until 1967. The Soo-Dominion ran between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where it was combined with the Canadian Pacific's Dominion to Vancouver, British Columbia. It ran until the early 1960s. The two trains were combined as a single train between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Glenwood, Minnesota, an important junction for the Soo Line's western routes. Railroads often combined passenger trains on overlapping routes as a cost-savings messure. This photo appears on p. 290 of Arthur Dubin's book Some Classic Trains. For another view of this train, see record 1243.
