Description:
The Pere Marquette streamliner rolling through a banked curve near St. Joseph, Michigan in Chicago-Grand Rapids service in 1951. The original Pere Marquette ran between Grand Rapids, Lansing and Detroit, but in 1949 the name was also adopted for the Chicago trains, which used new equipment from a failed Chesapeake & Ohio train. The Pere Marquette railroad had been formally merged into the C&O in 1947. Today, the Pere Marquette name lives on the Chicago-Grand Rapids route through Amtrak's Michigan Services. This photo appears on p. 185 of More Classic Trains by Arthur Dubin (Kalmbach, 1974).
