Description:
Builder's photo showing the "Winnetka," a 16-section sleeping car on the Chicago & North Western's premier train, the Chicago-Twin Cities North Western Limited. The C&NW competed with several railroads for business on that corridor, and lavishly re-equipped the train every few years. The "Winnetka" was part of a 1912 update. The car was built by Pullman, named for a Chicago suburb, and had sleeping berths for 32 passengers (two bunks per section) with men's and women's lavatories at opposite ends. This photo appears on p. 163 of More Classic Trains by Arthur Dubin (Kalmbach, 1974).
